Mikasa was founded in the 1930s based in Secaucus, New Jersey. The company was American with a Japanese style and was named for Prince Mikasa, the youngest brother of Emperor Hirohito. In 1948, the company started to produce dinnerware. Outsourcing to a network of over 150 manufacturers worldwide. Mikasa branded items were imported from Japan, Ireland, England, France, and Germany. This is why you'll see pieces that are marked "Germany" etc.
In 1960s, they introduced Studio Nova (more casual designs) and Home Beautiful (more durable and affordable). In 1980, they added crystal stemware, stainless steel flatware and other household accessories. In 2001, the company merged with J.G. Durand Industries and continues to trade under the name Mikasa.
